New YORK: The United Nation has expressed concern over the Manipur riots in India, saying the violations of human rights are not new.

The global peace body has strongly condemned the human rights violations against religious minorities.
The United Nations in its report has stated that there has been an increase of violence against religious minorities in India, especially in Manipur. India has a history of remaining silent on human rights violations, including the 2002 Gujarat riots and subsequent extrajudicial killing, the United Nations report stated.
A UN committee has also raised questions about the destruction of worship places of religious minorities and private homes in India.
On the other hand, no action has been taken against government officials who targeted religious minorities, engaged in hate speech and triggered public violence against religious minorities, said the United Nations.
According to the UN, while India has acknowledged the incidents of rape and other crimes during the riots in Manipur, it has not yet come up with any action plan to remedy it.
The UN has repeatedly highlighted the serious violations of human rights in India, but the Modi government remained stubborn and unmoved.
