LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab, Sardar Usman Buzdar on Friday inaugurated the Bab-e-Lahore project at Thokar Niaz Baig.
The decorative gateway to the city has been built right before the canal road at the main entryway and exit from the provincial capital. The gateway will welcome visitors to the city from the Islamabad-Lahore Motorway M2 and Lahore-Multan Motorway.
The Chief Minister was accompanied among others, by provincial Minister for Housing Mian Mehmudur Rasheed, Members Provincial Assembly Sadia Sohail Rana and Nazeer Chohan, Vice Chairman Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Sheikh Mohammad Imran and DG LDA Ahmed Aziz Tarar.
Sardar Usman Buzdar was given a briefing about the project, with emphasis laid on how traffic was not stopped for even one day during the construction. Illegal construction under the Thokar Niaz Baig flyover had been removed during the construction.
The Chief Minister said that visitors arriving to the city will have a “pleasant impression” while passing through the gateway. “Lahore is the city of gardens and flowers, Bab-e-Lahore will add to the city’s beauty,” he told the attendees of the inauguration ceremony.
As part of the project, Thokar Niaz Baig junction has been remodeled while green areas have been established next to the canal. Decorative lighting, streets lights and protective fences have been put up.
The gateway is 60 feet tall and 130 feet broad.
