War Between Heart And Mind

BY ADEEBA FATIMA

The human body is a cage, which has been confining uncontrollable feelings of love, but mind holds the key. The physical body is controlled by heart.

Any physical action by our body is something our heart desires. But our words are controlled by our mind. We think twice before we say anything.

The war between heart and mind is quite unsolvable. There is no way to win both of them at the same time. One of them always ends up being disappointed. The heart, so vulnerable and fragile, believes in every little beauty of the world while disregarding the cruelty which is fed by our minds.

After being broken too many times, it still believes in light, it still believes that a prince charming will arrive or a knight in shining armour will come and bring some light inside the heart. The heart is the most delicate part of a living creature.

Even after being stabbed many times, it is sure that someone with a heart of gold will come and help it heal. I read somewhere in a book which said, “The ways of the heart cannot be explained. It wants what it wants.” The heart can be fooled so easily but once fooled, it will heal itself and rise again with the same amount of love.

“It’s impossible, said pride. It’s risky, said experience. It’s pointless, said reason. Give it a try, whispered the heart.” -Anonymous

The mind, on the other hand, is always looking for a reason or a logical explanation for everything. Rationally speaking, it is absolutely correct to analyze before taking any big decision. But the truth is that the mind over thinks and over analyzes every situation. Sometimes, mind is right; we have to listen to it if we want to survive in this inhumane world full of people with stone cold hearts, or sometimes, people with no hearts. But we tend to over think in a situation where it is not even needed.

A drop forming a puddle, then into a lake and then into an ocean. Little by little, our mind starts forming an infinite loop of questions and doubts. In the ways of the world, we have to maintain a balance between heart and mind. I certainly try to have a win-win situation, so that neither of them gets disappointed. For instance, if a lost friend comes back in your life, your heart will tell you to give him another chance.

But the mind will tell you all the negative aspects, which has some truth in it. In this situation, try to weigh out the facts. The mind will try to take over of the whole situation, but you have to stay neutral. Listen to your heart but also consider what your mind is saying. Don’t over think. When the facts are laid out, your heart will know what to do. It always knows what to do even if it’s hard to accept. If you don’t know what to do, then flip a coin. You will know what you want when the coin is in the air.

It is important for the heart and mind to go hand in hand if any human wants to survive. Alfred Adler once said, “Follow your heart but take your brain with you”. In this quote, Alfred is trying to tell us to follow our heart but be wise in making any decision. Don’t rush into any situation. The heart will tell you what to do and the mind will tell you how to do it.
