RAWALPINDI: Malik Abrar Ahmed, Chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat, has said that the ongoing water crisis in Rawalpindi will be resolved soon with the completion of several new dams and rainwater conservation projects.

Speaking to a delegation from the Rawalpindi Restaurants, Caterers, Sweets, and Bakers Association, led by its President Muhammad Farooq Chaudhry, Malik Abrar stated that the construction of underground water tanks in both cantonment and city areas would enable the storage of millions of gallons of water daily.

Malik Abrar, who also serves as President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Rawalpindi Division, noted that construction work on the Daducha and Chahan Dams is in full swing. Additionally, he said that the water storage capacity of Rawal and Khanpur Dams is also being enhanced.

He emphasized that residents of Rawalpindi and Chaklala cantonments, which fall within his National Assembly constituency, face acute shortages every summer due to limited water storage. To address this, priority is being given to the release of allocated funds for the timely completion of water tank projects.

“The underground tank projects, which will also conserve rainwater, are in their final stages,” he said.

Among the major developments:

  • At Bhata Chowk, a tank with 200,000-gallon daily storage capacity is nearing completion.

  • At Gowalmandi, a 100,000-gallon capacity tank is under rapid construction.

  • Additional tanks with 50,000-gallon capacity each are being constructed in Naseerabad, Barf Khana Chowk, Ghaziabad, Afshan Colony, Tench Bhatta, Tahli Mohri, and Wards 7–10 of Chaklala Cantonment.

Malik Abrar also praised Rawalpindi’s traders for their contribution to the national economy. He assured the delegation that all issues faced by food business owners would be resolved on a priority basis.
