1,581 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Pakistan with 31 new deaths in 24 hours

ISLAMABAD: 1,581 new coronavirus infections were reported in Pakistan during last 24 hours which took the toll to 38,799. New 31 deaths from COVID-19 took the death toll to 834.

The National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), has confirmed that 1,581 persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 in 24 hours and 31 new fatalities round the country. Sindh remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic with highest number of infections, followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Pakistan has so far conducted 359,264 coronavirus tests and 14,878 in last 24 hours. 10,880 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas many are in critical condition. Coronavirus patients are under treatment at quarantine centers of 462 hospitals where 7,295 beds are available.

As per the latest figure given on National Coronavirus Dashboard of NCOC on May 16, Saturday 09:00am, in its province-wise break up after confirming the toll of 38,799 infections. The Sindh took the position of worst-hit province with tally of 14,916, followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Province-wise break up shows the figure that Sindh crossed the 14,916 toll of coronavirus cases followed by Punjab with 14,201 infections of coronavirus pandemic. The infections confirmed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have reached to 5,678, in Balochistan toll surged to figure of confirmed cases 2,457, 518 was figure in Gilgit-Baltistan, 921 in Islamabad Capital Territory and 105 in Azad Jammu Kashmir.

The figure given by Coronavirus Dashboard in its province-wise break up regarding the 834 total deaths reported in the country after 31 new fatalities were reported round the country. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is on top of the fatalities list with 291 deaths while Sindh at number 2 with 255 deaths, Punjab stands with 245 fatalities, Balochistan 31, Gilgit-Baltisan 4, Islamabad Capital Territory 7 and AJK 1.

Islamabad reports 55 new cases, and confirmed cases in the country rose to 38,799 after new cases were reported in Islamabad.

According to the national dashboard, 55 new cases were detected in the federal capital in the last 24 hours, taking the city’s tally of confirmed cases to 921.

Following the continuous violation of SOPs and precautionary measures by the traders, the Punjab government is considering closing various markets in Lahore.

According to sources, a high level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Bazdar. The meeting expressed serious concerns over the situation in the markets.

Sources said that SOPs were being violated in markets and the proposal to close some markets immediately in being considered.

According to sources, the government is considering to close Hall Road, Shah Alam Market, Anarkali and Azam Market in Lahore, while there are no security measures at Ichhra Bazaar, Township Bazaar and other places.

Sources privy to the government said that the shops will be challaned in the first phase and then the shops will be sealed as SOPs do not seem to be implemented.
