LAHORE: Siraj ul Haq, Amir (Chief) of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has stressed the need of a national debate among political parties across Pakistan for strengthening the election commission and for maintaining judicial independence for the sake country’s sovereignty.
In a statement issued from JI headquarters Mansoora on Monday, Siraj ul Haq said keeping in view the current political turmoil in the country, it was the high time that the government and opposition jointly introduce election reforms to avoid rigging and malpractices in elections so that with smooth and transparent elections country will attain the development and prosperity.
Similarly, he also called for the establishment of an independent and powerful accountability institution with the consultation of all stake holders. He said the country was not moving ahead due to the wrong policies of the government.
The JI chief said that the PTI had claimed that it would start a war against corruptions after coming into power. But, he added, the ruling party not only failed to nab the corrupt mafia, it showed pathetic performance in all other fields of governance. The campaign against corrupts left an impression of political victimization, he said.
Those who were named in Panama Papers were part of the government and opposition, Siraj said adding that neither the courts nor the NAB ever asked them about the money laundering.
He said none of the governments in past became much unpopular in such a short timeframe as that of the present regime. He said people were running out of patience due to skyrocketing inflation and unemployment and were ready to take to the street but the government seemed unconcerned and unmoved to address the problems.
Siraj said the government which seemed directionless and confused should sit together with opposition parties to bring the country out of crisis.
