Renowned Scholar and Educationist Dr Arfa Sayeda Zehra Passes Away

ISLAMABAD: Dr Arfa Sayeda Zehra, a distinguished Pakistani educationist, scholar, and human rights advocate, passed away on November 10. She had served as the Special Assistant on Education to former caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar and also chaired the National Commission on the Status of Women.

An eloquent scholar deeply committed to her field, Dr Zehra earned her advanced degrees from Government College University, Lahore, and the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Throughout her career, she taught at several leading higher education institutions in Pakistan, including Forman Christian College University, Lahore College for Women University, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), and the National College of Arts.

Known for her mastery of languages, history, and the arts, Dr Zehra championed gender equality and the restoration of ethical, spiritual, and intellectual values within Muslim societies. She also served as a teacher, principal, and policy advisor, leaving an enduring impact on Pakistan’s academic and social landscape. Her last position was as a meritorious professor of history at Forman Christian College, a role she resigned from last year due to health concerns.
