Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Suhail Afridi arrived in Karachi on Friday to a warm reception by PTI supporters and Sindh Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani, marking the start of his three-day political visit to the city.
Saeed Ghani presented Suhail Afridi with a traditional ajrak and Sindhi cap, while the chief minister thanked supporters for the warm reception.
After leaving the airport, Suhail Afridi proceeded in a rally joined by party leaders and workers.
According to sources, he will first visit Insaf House, where he is scheduled to meet central and provincial party leaders to discuss the political situation and organisational matters.
Sources said the arrival of PTI workers caused severe traffic disruption on Shahrah-e-Faisal.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government has decided to allow PTI to hold a public gathering at Jinnah Ground, Karachi.
Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said permission for the rally at Bagh-e-Jinnah was being granted.
Nasir Shah said Suhail Afridi would be welcomed in Sindh and that PTI was free to carry out political activities and hold peaceful rallies, adding that no party could be stopped from democratic struggle unless laws were violated.
Before arriving in Karachi, Suhail Afridi said in a video message that he was visiting Sindh for three days and would address a rally at Mazar-e-Quaid on Sunday, claiming it would be the largest rally in Karachi’s history.
Sources said Suhail Afridi travelled to Karachi on a PIA flight along with members of the provincial cabinet after changing his flight due to a delay by a private airline.
Earlier, Suhail Afridi alleged that the Islamabad-to-Karachi flight was deliberately delayed, saying it was scheduled to depart at 9 am but left at 12:30 pm.
During his visit, Suhail Afridi is expected to meet various personalities, address a meet-the-press at Karachi Press Club, travel to Hyderabad, attend a reception in Baldia Town and address the rally at Mazar-e-Quaid on Sunday.
However, sources said Karachi traders have declined to meet the chief minister during his visit.
