A Student’s Take On Life In Pakistan

Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah founded Pakistan for a purpose; to ensure peaceful life for every individual who seeks the same.

But given the ongoing situation, the question arises if we have a peaceful life here?

I have observed that the things have gradually gone miserable here. One tension doesn’t settles and the next is in the lineup. Payment of utility bills, crime rate and day-to-day expenses are major factors to bother an individual.

Since my childhood, I have been facing issues. Being a girl, I could not learn how to ride bicycle, especially in my area of living. The fact remains that Karachi is not safe for girls to go and play freely out of their houses.

A woman cannot even walk outside in fear of being ogled by every single man she passes. Even the veiled women do not feel safe enough.

Nowadays, I have observed that rather than family sitting together, making memories full of laughter, giggles, having a nostalgic environment with no topic to discuss other than politics and taxes, which is currently the most hot topic being discussed almost everywhere in the country.

I cannot fully blame the government for this situation. In my opinion, both the government and the people are at fault. Pakistan’s government lacks in having a fair system to run the country as bribery, cheating, corruption are so common here.

Whenever the government stands to make amendment in certain laws, people would not cooperate with it. Currently a law was passed making it mandatory for the bike-riders to wear helmets but the bike-riders proved to be the strongest resisting force.

One can find only a few sensible enough to respect and obey the law. The police officers are seen on duty almost everywhere in Karachi, holding the challan receipt book in their hand but no one is afraid of the police.

Why? Because rather than urging the people to pay the fine, the police is interested in minting money from the people who are breaking the law, the perception goes so. This depicts how the citizens and the government are not well-connected with each other.

If both strive to work, no power can stop Pakistan to gain and flourish. There should be unity amongst the people and there is need to fully respect women who opt to remain in their houses because of some disgraceful attitudes.
