CJP Gulzar Ahmad terms motorway gang-rape incident shameful

LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Gulzar Ahmad while expressing concern over gang-rape incident on motorway near Gujjarpura and it shameful.

Addressing the concluding session of the six-day Commercial and Overseas Courts Training Workshop at Punjab Judicial Academy, Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed said that time was needed to build judges and courts on modern lines.

The chief justice said that the gathering here today is to ensure the best for our investors and business community, adding that Pakistan s economy is heavily dependent on investment and it is not a big deal that problems arise at different stages of business.

Justice Gulzar went on to say that business matters come to the courts so that they can be resolved, however, their delaying in the courts creates more problems. He said countries with the best judicial systems also get more investment. “Best judicial system is the need of the hour, if we wish to increase investment,” he said.

Speaking about the motorway gang-rape incident, CJP strongly condemned the incident and said that it was shameful. Expressing deep concern over the incident, he said that the government needs to wake up.

He said, “Political interference in the police has become common, adding that the command of the police is in the hands of non-professionals. “Law and order is the responsibility of the government, adding that a transparent police system is the need of the hour,” he added.
