The impact of the corona-virus is being felt worldwide. In Pakistan, this pandemic has started making impact on country’s social, economic and political landscape.
Although, the government is trying its best to handle the epidemic but ground realities show that it would take time for the measures taken to bear fruit.
Pakistan has already faced numerous problems. In recently years, the country endured huge losses during the war on terror.
By the Grace of God, with sacrifices of security forces and resilience of whole nation, we overcome on of the worst nightmares- the abysmal wave of terrorism and worst law and order.
However, the thing that will truly test the resilience of the Pakistani people once again, is the corona-virus.
The important thing to note is that all four provinces have cases of the corona-virus infections, including Islamabad, the federal capital.
In these testing times, our Armed forces have once again come forward and expressed their determination to help government get rid of this pandemic.
In a recent Corps Commanders Conference-the highest forum of Pakistani army, the military leadership announced that they would stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Pakistan to deal with this pandemic.
Unfortunately, due to lack of an education, awareness and callous attitude millions of Pakistanis do not understand their social responsibility.
They do not realize that in order to contain corona-virus from spreading further, precautions must be taken. It is encouraging to see that the country’s print and electronic media is trying to create some awareness but a lot more needs to be done in this regard.
Avoiding hand shake and hugs -as a precautionary measure to avoid the spread of corona virus, has become societal issue for most people.
Pakistanis feel annoyed when another person avoids handshakes and hugs- a tradition way of greeting. Our religious scholars have inculcated into the minds of the people that shaking hands and hugging each other is the only way to create harmony between people.
The corona virus has also hit other various aspects of our society. For example, due to prevailing situation in the country, in some areas of the country, the government has requested people to avoid any kind of political, religious and social gathering.
One important suggestion is to avoid gatherings in mosques for the five prayers. All such acts which are linked to our religious obligations have flexibility in them the scholars say.
Among around 57 Muslim countries, Turkey and Malaysia are considered moderate Muslim States; majority of the Muslim states are still run through archaic systems.
Pakistan being a democratic country, should lead by example. Scholars says that if the Muslims world wants to overcome regional and international issues, they must adopt a progressive approach.
It is important to note the new trait of novel corona-virus, in a way, has made it clear to human beings that their scientific progress and development, is not yet enough to prevent a minuscule virus from wreaking havoc at global scale.
