Dadyal, Mirpur (AJK): Nestled amidst the lush landscapes of Mirpur district, Dadyal has long been known for its dual identity: a haven of prosperity fueled by expatriates in the United Kingdom, and a hub of unconventional passions such as bull racing and dog fighting. However, beyond these surface perceptions lies a quieter, yet profoundly impactful narrative of philanthropy and community service that is exemplified by the Dadyal Dialysis Centre.

Established with a single dialysis machine donated by the visionary family of Haji Nazir Alam from Chapran Bhalot this center has evolved into a vital lifeline for kidney patients of the region. Initially serving the tehsil of Dadyal, its reach now extends to neighboring areas including Tatta Panni, Mandhol, Kotli, Sehensa, Chakswari, and even Kallar Syeddan in Rawalpindi district.

Dadyal Dialysis Centre The News Today The News Today-TNT Under the stewardship of its current committee, led by President Manzoor Hussain Chaudhry and comprising dedicated members like Abdul Shahid Chaudhry, Waqar Ahmad Mir, Chaudhry Sohbat Ali, and Chaudhry Gultasab Khan, the centre has seen a remarkable expansion in its services.

In 2023 alone, the Dadyal Dialysis Centre conducted a staggering 5,914 dialysis sessions, a significant leap from the modest 112 sessions recorded in 2015. Chaudhry Gultasab Khan, a key figure in the center’s operations, emphasized that this growth is not merely numerical but reflective of a deep commitment to improving healthcare accessibility in the region. “We operate at full capacity with 13 machines running in two shifts, serving an average of 26 patients daily,” Khan noted.

Beyond dialysis, the center also accommodates Thalassemia patients with dedicated facilities for blood transfusions, performing 88 such procedures in the past year. Financially, the center operates with transparency and accountability, as evidenced by its meticulously detailed annual report.

In 2023, the centre managed expenses totaling 35.2 million rupees, with a substantial portion funded by donations from overseas Pakistani donors in the UK, amounting to 21.1 million rupees. Local contributions, including direct deposits and local fundraising efforts, added up to 18.3 million rupees, further underscoring the community’s steadfast support.

The commitment to transparency extends to the annual report, which meticulously documents every donation received, down to the last rupee. This level of financial transparency not only meets stringent accountability standards but also fosters trust among donors and beneficiaries alike.

Challenges:

Despite its commendable achievements, the center faces significant challenges. Chief among these is the absence of an in-house pathology laboratory capable of conducting essential tests such as Renal Function Tests, Hepatitis screenings, and Electrolyte analyses required for effective dialysis treatment. Currently, patients are compelled to seek these services externally, incurring additional costs and often facing delays or inaccuracies in test results, which can jeopardize their treatment outcomes.

Recognizing this critical need, stakeholders at the Dadyal Dialysis Centre advocate for the establishment of a modern pathology laboratory on-site. Such a facility would not only streamline patient care but also ensure that all diagnostic procedures are conducted promptly and reliably, thereby enhancing the overall quality of healthcare delivery.

Moreover, integrating a dedicated pharmacy within the center would further alleviate the financial burden on patients, ensuring that medications vital to their daily well-being are accessible free of cost.

Looking Ahead:

The vision for the Dadyal Dialysis Centre is clear; to continue expanding its reach and enhancing its services to meet the growing healthcare needs of the community who cannot afford expensive renal treatment. With ongoing support from both local philanthropists and generous expatriates abroad, the center stands poised to embark on its next chapter of growth and impact in the field of renal care.

The story of the Dadyal Dialysis Centre is not merely one of medical statistics and financial reports; it is a testament to the power of community solidarity and compassion. Amidst the hustle of bull races and the intensity of dog fights, this center shines as a beacon of hope and healing, embodying the spirit of selfless service that defines the true essence of Dadyal.
