ISLAMABAD: Death toll due to COVID-19, as Health authorities have confirmed, jumped to 12 round the country and number of confirmed infections of the disease in Pakistan rose to 1,528.
After 22 new cases of infections of the COVID-19 were confirmed in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad Capital Territory, Balochistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir surfaced the country-wide toll jumps to 1,528. Despite lockdown people in many parts of country are violating the lockdown and Sindh Government has warned of more restrictions if people not follow the government orders.
According to a province-wise break up of death toll given by Health officials regarding the total 12 deaths, Punjab tops the toll with five deaths so far followed by four deaths in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh 01, Balochistan 01, Gilgit-Baltistan 01.
According to the breakdown, four new cases were reported in Islamabad, 12 in Sindh, five in Gilgit-Baltistan and one in Punjab. Two new cases of coronavirus were reported in Azad Jammu Kashmir on Sunday taking the tally to four in the region.
The province-wise break up given by the authorities of total number of confirmed infections 1,528, Punjab topped the table here with toll reached to 558, followed by Sindh with 481, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 188, Balochistan 138, Gilgit-Baltistan 116, Islamabad Capital Territory 43 and AJK 04.
Meanwhile, doctors and para-medics round th ecountry are at high risk due to non-availability of protective gears and equipment and not efforts were made so far to provide then the proper equipment. 15 doctors and paramedic staff have been tested positive for the novel coronavirus at the Nishtar Hospital in Multan, a spokesperson for the hospital told the media on Saturday afternoon.
The spokesperson added that tests were being done to ascertain whether any other doctors or medical staff had the virus. “The doctors tested positive had treated a patient with a heart disease who passed away and tested positive for the virus afterwards,” the spokesperson added.
In Global scenario of the COVID-19 more than 28,000 death have been recorded world-over, of which most have been in Europe since the virus first emerged in December.
More than 615,000 declared virus cases have been registered in 200 countries and territories of which at least 268,191 are in Europe, the worst-hit continent.
The countries with the most deaths include Italy with 9,134 deaths out of 86,498 declared infections, Spain with 5,690 deaths out of 72,248 cases, mainland China with 3,295 deaths out of 81,394 cases, Iran with 2,517 deaths out of 35,408 cases, and France with 1,995 fatalities out of 32,964 cases.
