Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, the Federal Minister for Housing and Works, took charge of a pivotal meeting at the Ministry to discuss pressing concerns regarding construction standards, maintenance, repair of buildings, and the challenge of corruption within the Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD).
Abdul Rasheed, the Director General of Pak PWD, provided an overview of the department’s operations and management to Minister. Pirzada, in response, issued firm directives to Rasheed, emphasizing the need for stringent measures to elevate construction work quality and to bolster maintenance and repair services for government infrastructure.
Expressing deep concern over reports of corruption within the department, Pirzada stressed the urgency of eliminating such practices to promote transparency and accountability. In light of this, the Minister instructed the Director General to implement a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.
Pirzada also addressed the issue of stalled development funds allocated for various constituencies. He urged the relevant authorities to expedite the release of funds without any delays, ensuring that crucial projects move forward unhindered.
The meeting, attended by Dr. Shahzad Khan Bangash, Secretary of Housing and Works, as well as chief engineers from all zones and other senior officials of the ministry and PWD, underscored the government’s commitment to upholding high standards of construction and integrity within the public works sector.
