ISLAMABAD: A National Assembly Standing Committee on Tuesday directed Aviation Division to provide the record of serving Vice Air Marshals, Executive Officers and all the new appointments in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to the panel in the next meeting.
National Assembly Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges also directed PIA officials and officers of the National Assembly to prepare a proper mechanism for resolving all the issues being faced by the parliamentarians related to air tickets.
The penal headed by National Assembly Member, Rana Muhammad Qasim, expressed displeasure on Secretary, Aviation Division, Chief Executive Officer, PIA and Chief Commercial Officer PIA for not attending the meeting. The Committee approved the minutes of its previous meeting held on August 7, 2020.
It asked Aviation Division and the PIA administration to provide last seven years’ record of air tickets issued to the MNAs and status of reimbursement of un-utilized tickets. The Committee also took notice of the frequent transfers being made in the PIA, which it said was causing problems to the employees of the national flag carrier. The Committee would take up the subject in its next meeting.
In another question of privilege raised by Usama Qadri, MNA regarding non-provision of security to the member by the Secretary Home Department Sindh, Inspector General and Additional Inspector General Sindh, DIG Security Karachi and Commissioner Karachi, the Committee expressed its displeasure for not attending the meeting by any of these officers from Sindh Government.
On the issue of Standard Operating Procedure for providing security to the parliamentarians, the penal also expressed its displeasure on Home Departments of Sindh, KPK and Balochistan for not attending the previous meeting.
The Committee asked the Ministry of Interior to provide the security of para-military Rangers to Usama Qadri, MNA). In case of any untoward incident, the Ministry of Interior would he held responsible, the penal warned.
The penal disposed off a matter of privilege raised by Syed Mubeen Ahmed, MNA regarding misbehavior SDPO, Liaqat Pur, District Rahimyar Khan with the Member over telephone. It directed Regional Police Officer (R.P.O) Bahawalpur to issue directives to all his officers to give due respect to the parliamentarians.
The penal also took up another question of privilege raised by Shahida Rehmani, MNA regarding inaction of Inspector General of Police, Sindh, Additional Inspector General of Police, Sindh, Karachi, and Director General, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on her complaints regarding receiving threatening calls on her telephone and mobile.
The officers did not attend the meeting. This prompted the committee to schedule its meeting in Karachi. The committee said Sindh police chief should attend that meeting in person.
The committee appreciated the efforts being made by Regional Police Officer Multan to maintain law and order in the area and properly implementing the National Action Plan.
The Committee also appreciated initiatives taken RPO, including Mobile Khidmat Marakiz, Community Policing-Masajids at Community Centres, Monitoring of SHOs through CCTVs and Installation of CCTVs in the lock up areas.
Taking up a question of privilege raised by Muhammad Iqbal Khan a Parliamentary Secretary, regarding use of derogatory and insulting language against him by XEN Irrigation, KPK, the Committee directed that Daud Khan, Ex-Secretary, Irrigation Department should attend the next meeting of the Committee in person.
