ISLAMABAD: Pakistan marks its 77th Independence Day on Wednesday (August 14). Today, nation celebrates its Independence Day with fervor and zeal. Both the people and the government are fully committed to addressing all threats to national security and unity, striving for lasting peace within the country and along its borders, while also maintaining cordial relations with nations around the world.
The nation commemorated this milestone with a deep sense of tradition and national pride, reflecting the enduring spirit of the Pakistan Movement. Over the past 77 years, Pakistan has experienced numerous highs and lows, overcoming many internal and external challenges to reach this significant anniversary.
Though 77 years is a relatively short time for a nation to develop and grow, Pakistan strives hard to establish itself as a strong presence on the world stage.
August is celebrated as the month of Independence. In preparation for August 14, 2024, people, especially the youth and children, enthusiastically prepare to celebrate both individually and collectively.
This Independence Day is particularly special as, for the first time, Pakistani civil and military leadership are united in their determination to address the country’s current challenges.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Army Chief General Asim Munir, in their messages on this auspicious occasion, reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering stance. They affirmed that the country will continue to extend all possible political, legal, and moral support to the Kashmiris in their just struggle for freedom until they achieve their right of self-determination as per UN Security Council resolutions and secure freedom from India’s occupation.
As preparations for Independence Day continue, tributes are paid to Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and his comrades. Green national flags flutter atop residences, buildings, vehicles, and motorcycles. Youngsters are set to wear specially made outfits featuring the national flag as the day approaches.
This day invites a moment of reflection on where Pakistan stands and where it aspires to be.
The day commenced with a series of ceremonial activities designed to honor the nation’s rich history and reaffirm its commitment to becoming a true Islamic welfare state.
The celebrations began with a 31-gun salute in the Federal Capital, followed by a 21-gun salute at provincial headquarters.
At dawn, special prayers were offered in mosques across the country, invoking peace, solidarity, and prosperity for Pakistan.
The highlight of the day’s events was the national flag hoisting ceremony held in Islamabad, mirrored by similar ceremonies at provincial, divisional, and district headquarters throughout the country.
In conjunction with the flag hoisting, state broadcasters Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television dedicated their programming to commemorating the heroes of the Pakistan Movement.
Across cities, vibrant displays of national pride were evident. Roadside stalls offered flags, badges, stickers, and clothing, catering to the festive needs of both adults and children. Public buildings were adorned with national flags and illuminated with colorful lights, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.
