ISLAMABAD: In a major step toward modernizing Pakistan’s airport infrastructure, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has finalized the basic design for installing electronic immigration gates (e-gates) at the country’s three major airports.

According to a report by 24NewsHD TV, the e-gates will be installed at Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi airports.

The development follows a three-day workshop involving German aviation and security experts, who are currently visiting Pakistan to consult with stakeholders. The workshop focused on finalizing technical specifications and implementation plans for the e-gate systems.

Faster Immigration, Global Standards

The PAA stated that the introduction of e-gates will significantly speed up immigration processes for departing and arriving passengers by automating identity verification procedures.

“This initiative is part of our broader effort to bring Pakistan’s airports in line with international aviation standards,” the Authority said in a statement.

It further added that consultants are working satisfactorily under the terms of the agreement, and progress is being closely monitored to ensure successful deployment.

E-gates are already in use at airports in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia to enhance passenger flow, improve security, and reduce wait times. Their implementation in Pakistan marks a significant leap toward digital transformation in air travel.
