PDM announces to stage protest after Imran Khan granted bail

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chairman and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Moulana Fazlur Rehman has announced that the ruling coalition will stage a sit in, outside Supreme Court of Pakistan and protest after the apex court ordered to release PTI chairman Imran Khan.

The political conglomerate reached to the decision in a meeting convened by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the head of PDM, the ruling coalition to discuss the situation following the release of Imran Khan.

The was attended by several political leaders including former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, PPP chief Aftab Sherpao and BNP Mengal chief Akhtar Mengal, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Hyderi of JUIF, Akram Durrani. PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif also participated in the meeting through video link.

The meeting considered the practicalities of protesting against the Supreme Court’s decision, while the JUI-F chief informed about the decisions and recommendations of his party.

The PDM meeting decided to march on Islamabad, stage sit-in in front of Supreme Court of Pakistan that begin on Monday (May 15)

A sit-in will begin infront of the Supreme Court from Monday, Fazlur Rehman told the media on Friday, after a meeting of PDM parties on Friday in Islamabad, he made the announcement.

“We will tell the Supreme Court that it is mother of the law not mother in law,” Fazl said, adding that the SC was issuing orders beyond the scope of law and constitution.

Fazl said that the PDM had decided to protest against the SC’s attitude and appealed to the ‘entire nation’ to make their way to Islamabad on Monday.

“I want to tell my workers, leave whatever you are doing and make your way to Islamabad.” Fazl said. “If someone stops us, we will answer with slaps, sticks and stones.”

He said that by giving ‘facilities’ to Imran Khan, the court had given protection to corruption and encouragement to those who were involved in it.

“Was such relief extended to three-time Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif?” Fazl asked.

He said that Imran was being given VVIP protocol, while ‘ghunda-gardi’ persisted throughout the country. Fazl said that relief given by the Supreme Court to Imran was akin to giving ‘protection’ to terrorism.

Fazl said that the GHQ, houses of corp commanders and even monuments to the army’s martyrs had been attacked in the protests after Imran’s arrests.

Fazl also said that the PDM rejects the 3-2 decision given by the court to hold elections in Punjab on May 14.
