Shehbaz Sharif meets Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, reaffirms solidarity with Qatar and calls for regional peace

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday met with Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, expressing solidarity with Qatar and calling for de-escalation and dialogue for peace in the Middle East.

“At the outset, Qatari amir welcomed PM Shehbaz and his delegation, and expressed his deep appreciation for Pakistan’s pivotal role in supporting efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and promote diplomatic dialogue in a manner that serves regional security and stability,” Prime Minister Office (PMO) statement said on X.

PM Sharif, in a post on x, termed the meeting as “warm and cordial” and expressed gratitude for Qatar’s gesture of sending fighter jets to escort his aircraft upon entering Qatari airspace, calling it a reflection of strong ties and hospitality.

Qatar’s Amir lauded Pakistan’s role in promoting de-escalation and diplomatic dialogue, while PM Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s condemnation of attacks in the region and expressed full solidarity with Qatar.

Both sides reviewed longstanding bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in key areas including security, defence and energy, with the discussions described as productive and reflective of deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and Gulf states.

The prime minister is accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and the prime minister’s spokesperson for international media, Mosharraf Zaidi.
