Pressure Manipulation

By Hammad Ali

It is very fatal to be a teenager in this society, as one has to go through a lot of mental pressure. Discussing your mental stress is considered as a taboo. Being a teenager of this discourteous society, I have also experienced some of these societal pressures. One of the major pressures that we have to face in this society is about career.

In this hypothetical society, there are some educational standards set by people in which arts and commerce students’ fall in the lowest category, and doctors and engineers are considered as high profile students. One of the frequently asked questions is about the subjects you have chosen. If you are an art student then you would be labeled as an ordinary pupil and people will look down on you. This is more than enough to shatter the confidence of students and make them feel as they are worthless and will have no career in the future.

There is a saying that if you will confuse yourself with judging a fish to climb a tree, then you will definitely make your mind that the fish is incapable. This is very unfortunate that we have set the same ground rule to judge everyone’s capabilities ignoring the fact that everyone has its own diverse skills and different personality traits.

Another stereotypical attitude of our society is about physical appearance. People are categorized as superior on the basis of their skin color even though we live in a country of brown people. Body shaming is another issue that is faced by almost every second person. People are bullied on the basis of their physical appearance.

There is no space for racism in islam

The fact is, there is no space for racism in Islam and to support this I would quote the saying of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) saying, “All humans are descended from Adam and Eve. There is no superiority of an Arab over a non-Arab, or of a non-Arab over an Arab, and no superiority of a white person over a black person or of a black person over a white person, except on the basis of personal piety and righteousness.”

Being Muslims we must look upon the teachings of the Quran and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). How can we claim to be a Muslim when we are judging people based on their skin color, race, and creed? As far as my personal experience is concerned, I have seen people who judge others in a thousand different ways which leads to depression and then to suicide. People with strong willpower and emotions can cope with society and others are dragged to the darkness of depression. This keeps on playing on a loop and we do nothing to break this loop.
