ISLAMABAD: Haroon an iconic pop singer has returned to the music scene adopting a brand new persona called Freddie Fiction.
Pop icon Haroon, the hitmaker of songs such as Mahbooba, Jadoo Ka Chiragh, and Dil Se, as well as the Peabody Award winning director/creator of superhero animated TV series Burka Avenger, has donned a mask to take on a new secret identity.
“Freddie Fiction” says the singer, “is an alter ego that focuses on English pop songs with social messages.”
The first music video from Freddie Fiction highlights the issue of racial inequality worldwide with a focus on the BLM movement.
Earlier this May, the tragic demise of George Floyd served as the primary inspiration behind his single ‘Just Let Me Breathe’. One of his earliest memories as someone from a mixed race background, involved experiencing racism first-hand.
Said the singer. “A song or piece of art or media can have a message that can make a positive impact. That was the idea behind Burka Avenger and that is the idea behind Freddie Fiction.”
“Just Let Me Breathe” employs the use of pop rhythms infused with R&B and bold lyrics to deliver a song with a powerful message.
For Haroon, Freddie Fiction is a passion project that has been years in the making. He wants his music to not only entertain but also touch on real issues that impact real people in the world, no matter where they are from.
Together with his lyrics and melody, he creates the Freddie Fiction Experience for his listeners, all without ever taking off his mask. Freddie Fiction is set to release multiple music videos in the coming months each with a different but important message.
