Main hall of Faisal Masjid sealed over SOP violations

ISLAMABAD: The main prayer hall of Faisal Masjid in Islamabad has been sealed over coronavirus SOP violations.
Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat announced the news on Twitter.
The government’s coronavirus SOPs were violated at the mosque on Saturday. On Sunday, the Islamabad administration sealed the hall and said prayers will be held in the open space in the mosque instead.
Mosques across the country are following special SOPs set by the government during Ramazan.
On Friday, President Arif Alvi called on the country to observe a day of prayer for the end of the coronavirus. People raised concerns that mass prayers may serve to increase virus transmissions.
Pakistan has been hit by the second wave of coronavirus, compelling the authorities to shut down educational institutions across the country and announce new restrictions to contain the spread of the virus.

ISLAMABAD: The election for the vacant seat of Islamabad mayor will be held on December 28, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Candidates can submit their nomination papers until December 11, the ECP said. The scrutiny of papers would take place on December 16 while the final date to withdraw nomination papers is December 21.
Sheikh Anser Aziz was elected the first mayor of Islamabad in 2016, during the tenure of former Nawaz Sharif-led government.
PTI led Governemnt had suspended the Mayor Ansar Aziz but Islamabad High Court restored the Mayor.
He resigned from the post in October 2020, claiming that the PTI led federal government was curtailing the mayor’s powers.

Former premier Zafarullah Jamali passes away in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: Former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has passed away in Islamabad, the hospital administration confirmed Wednesday night.
The former prime minister was taken to the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology in Rawalpindi after he suffered a heart attack four days ago.
According to the hospital administration, Jamali was also suffering from some kidney issues when he was brought to the hospital in a critical condition. He had been placed on life support.
Jamali served as the country’s premier from November 23, 2002 till June 26, 2004 during then president Pervez Musharraf’s tenure.
He also served as the acting chief minister of Balochistan from November 1996 to February 1997.

CNG stations in KP, Punjab, Islamabad closed for 24 hours

ISLAMABAD: All the CNG stations in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad will remain closed for 24 hours from midnight.
Gas supply to all the CNG stations in the northern region will remain halted for 24 hours starting from midnight, said the gas company.
The decision to halt gas supply to gas stations was taken to facilitate the needs of domestic consumers.

Court wants compensation issue of displaced Islamabad residents resolved

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court has ordered the concerned authorities to find a solution to the problems of Islamabad residents displaced during the city’s planning and development in the 1960s.
Thousands of Islamabad residents were displaced in the wake of infrastructural development in the city in the 60s.
Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard eight petitions filed by people displaced from F-14 and F-15 sectors.
In the past, they have been offered compensation for their land at the government rates, but they say their land is worth several times more and demand the government pay them the market value.
There’s nothing like the State for a commoner, the judge remarked during the hearing. He said the State is busy serving the elite alone.
“We can see the state of governance in the country,” Justice Minallah said. “Everywhere there is a conflict of interest.”
He said a commoner would give in to the impediments in their way to get their right. “The State that was to protect the citizens is busy serving only the elite.”
How would you feel if your lands are nationalised and you are evicted from your homes, the chief justice asked officials of the Islamabad Capital Development Authority and the Housing Foundation.
“What explanation would you offer to a widow who is not getting a house to live in return for her own land?” he questioned. “Simply put, the State does not exist for a common citizen.”
CDA and Housing Foundation officials blamed the National Accountability Bureau for the delay. They said NAB would be after them if they made any decision.
The court maintained that basic rights of the people could not be overlooked. It ordered officials to present a solution to the issue by December 3 and adjourned the hearing.

Seven more educational institutes sealed after surge in coronavirus cases

ISLAMABAD: Seven more educational institutions on Friday have been sealed after surge in coronavirus cases in Islamabad.
According to details, three private and four government schools have been closed by the district health officer (DHO) over reporting of COVID-19 cases. The DHO has directed to immediately shut the institutions for 14 days.
On the other hand, Pakistan has reported 36 deaths in the last 24  hours by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 368,665. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 7,561.
According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 2,738 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
Sindh remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic both in terms of cases and casualties followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Till now 159,752 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 112,893 in Punjab, 43,259 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 16,642 in Balochistan, 25,719 in Islamabad, 5,806 in Azad Kashmir and 4,494 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Furthermore 2,780 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Sindh, 2,811 in Punjab, 1,319 in KP, 158 in Balochistan, 266 in Islamabad, 134 in Azad Kashmir and 93 in GB.
Pakistan has so far conducted 5,098,291 coronavirus tests and 42,909 in the last 24 hours. 327,542 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas 1,517 patients are in critical condition.

Islamabad to seal three educational institutions over coronavirus cases

ISLAMABAD: The administration in Islamabad has decided to seal three educational after new cases of the coronavirus were reported there.
In a letter, the district health officer told the Islamabad deputy commissioner that at least four new cases of the deadly virus were reported at the Ali Trust School in the city’s Sector G-14, while two cases were reported at Jinnah Muslim School on Park Road.
Various departments at COMSATS University Islamabad will also be closed because a number of cases were reported there.
According to the authorities, the second wave of the coronavirus is underway in Pakistan. The government has already banned indoor weddings in major cities and government and private institutions have been told to allow 50% of their employees to work from home.
The virus has so far claimed 7,160 lives in Pakistan, while the number of confirmed cases in country has jumped to 359,032.
The government hasn’t taken any decision to close educational institutions so far.
The decision to close schools across Pakistan will be taken on November 23, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood said Monday morning.
After the meeting of the National Command and Operation Centre and the education ministers of all the provinces, it was decided that educational institutions across the country will not be closed yet.
Mahmood said that after the meeting on November 23, it will be decided whether winter vacations will be extended or schools will be closed.

Nasir Butt, Saleem Raza placed as ‘most-wanted’ terrorist in Red Book of FIA

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency has placed the main characters in the video scandal of dismissed judge Arshad Malik, PML-N’s Nasir Butt and Mian Saleem Raza, on the list of “most wanted” terrorists in the country.
Tjhe fresh maintained Red Book  regarding the most wanted persons recvealed that the decision of declaring both leaders of the PMLN the most wanted terrorists came months after an Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad dismissed the FIA’s plea seeking to try all accused in the judge video scandal case under the anti-terrorism law.
The Counter-Terrorism Wing of the FIA added Butt and Raza to its list of most wanted terrorists named in its latest Red Book prepared this week, the recently approved list of most wanted persons that include the name of MQM founder Altaf Hussain as well, besides Altaf Hussain, Anwar, Iftikhar of MQM have also been declared ‘most wanted terrorists’ in FIA’s Red Book
Nasir Butt and Mian Saleem Raza are involved in Arshad Malik (Judge) Video scandal which was subsequently charged by him for blackmailing, criminal intimidation, read the Red Book exclusively made available with these correspondents.
The London-based British Pakistani Nasir Butt shared the latest most-wanted list with Saleem Raza who has also been declared “most wanted” in the same list that the country’s top investigation body considers “most wanted”.
According to the FIA document, Nasir Butt’s name was added after anti-terrorism provisions were added to the case related to the video scandal of judge Arshad Malik, who had convicted ex-premier Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia Steel Mill reference in 2018 but told Nasir Butt on video that he was blackmailed to convict Nawaz Sharif.
Currently, Butt and Raza and some other PML-N leaders are facing a case under cyber laws in a local court in Islamabad. Both accused did not join the trial and live abroad reportedly. The FIA teams have already recorded statements of the entire top leadership of the PML-N in this case. When contacted, Nasir Butt said: “I am glad that I was able to establish through video evidence that Nawaz Sharif was wronged by the accountability judge Arshad Malik”, Geo News reported.
The FIA’s most wanted list carries profiles of around 1,200 terrorism suspects that it deems most notorious for their role in some of the most high-profile terrorist incidents to take place in the country. The list also has names of those who are accused of carrying out the attempt on the lives of former president Pervez Musharraf and former PM Shaukat Aziz, including those who allegedly carried out the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
In July this year, an administrative committee of the Lahore High Court (LHC) sacked Arshad Malik on the basis of an investigation into the video scandal which declared Malik guilty.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif had released the video clip of the judge at a news conference in July last year. Nasir Butt left for London prior to the release of the video. He obtained a forensic report of the videos and submitted it before the authorities in Pakistan confirming the videos were genuine.

Japan Embassy donates Jasmine trees to the Japanese Park in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Embassy of Japan, in line with the PM Imran Khan’s initiative, ’Clean-Green Pakistan’, donated 20 Jasmine trees to Japanese Park in Islamabad on 10 November.
MATSUDA Kuninori, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, along with the State Minister for Climate Change, Zartaj Gul planted Jasmine trees at the Park during a tree plantation ceremony.
Naveed Tareen Khan, Director General Environment, Capital Development Authority, was also present.
While speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador said that “Many local residents enjoy visiting this park, this became a symbol of friendship between Japan and Pakistan’.
The park opened in 1985 after the then Japanese Prime Minister NAKASONE visited Pakistan and donated playground equipment for the children of Pakistan as a gift from the children of Japan.
In 2015 again, Japan refurbished the equipment as the equipment became old. When bamboo trees at the park had fallen due to the heavy monsoon rain this summer, Ambassador had special interest to rehabilitate the garden by donating new trees to the Park.
In order to make the park clean and beautiful, ’tree planting at the Japanese Park is a small contribution by the Embassy towards a Clean-Green Pakistan initiative of PM Khan”, said the Ambassador.
He also mentioned that the Embassy had planted trees at its compound last November, aiming to contribute to a clean and green Pakistan.
On this occasion, the Minister and the Ambassador exchanged views on the importance of technical cooperation on the issue of climate change, especially referring to the area of next-generation solar cells, carbon recycling and electric vehicles.

Special squads constituted to make Islamabad noise-free

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has constituted special squads to check noise pollution and to take action against installation of pressure horns in vehicles and impose heavy fines on those using them.

According to the police spokesman, Senior Superintendent of Traffic Police Farrukh Rashid has constituted special squads to make the capital noise-free.

During the ongoing year, pressure horns from 818 vehicles/bikes were removed by the police teams, and fine tickets were issued to their drivers.

The SSP (Traffic) said that ITP had launched a campaign as the noise pollution affects the nerves and injurious to human health, therefore, strict action would be taken against those installing pressure horns.

Special squads of ITP has been constituted to conduct regular checking and fining vehicles involved in creating noise pollution or other environmental pollution in the city to end noise pollution in the city, the SSP maintained.

The Police official appealed to the citizens to contact ITP’s helpline 1915 or 051-9261992, 9262234 to lodge complaints against those using pressure horns. (With input from INP)
